QUALITY products and good service are driving forces for Phil Ryder and one of the reasons why the body-building engineer has been a NZH client for more than a decade.
The Palmerston North-based Phil Ryder Engineering Ltd owner says when Budget Waste from Manawatu commissioned him to put two new waste transport truck and trailer units on the road, he faced several challenges. “My input was the design, managing and delivery of two units capable of the highest possible payload.
The design and building had to take into account restrictions on the size of the containers, the forklift’s capacity, and Road Transport NZ’s requirements in terms of the trailer,” he says. Speccing two Hino 450-hp 8-wheelers as prime movers, Phil and design engineers Randalls, also from Palmerston North, started working on the design and its specifications.
The two trucks would each transport 25 tonnes per trip of waste from the Manawatu refuse station into the Bonnie Glen Landfill between Maxwell and Wanganui, ten hours per day, six days per week, aiming to do seven loads per day between the two of them.
Fruehauf trailers built the trailers, Precision Manufacturers built the containers, and Ali Arc Trailers from Wanganui fitted the tipping frame and draw beam to the truck chassis. The PTO’s and pumps, control valves and Harsh Hoists were from NZH: “I must admit I am biased in favour of NZH products, because I have been buying from them for years and know what I am getting. I required a stabilising system for the hoist, one that would not add too much weight to the unit, and Harsh fitted the bill for both,” Phil says.
Phil then fitted out the trucks, designing the rest of the equipment, including the body locks and electricals. “The process went smoothly, because we addressed all issues in the design stage. And NZH contributed to this, by sending me exactly what I ordered on time,” Phil says.
